The Philosophy: Asymmetry of Prediction
In individual sports, most bettors try to predict who will play well. This is a fallacy because players don’t play at their absolute best very often. The Sharp looks for spots where a player will play poorly.
This is a fundamental asymmetry in sports betting:
Predicting Brilliance (110% Level): Nearly impossible. A player can have a day where they are “in the zone” on any surface, against any opponent, regardless of form. It is spontaneous variance.
Predicting Collapse (90% Level or Less): Highly predictable. There are dozens of structural, physical, and motivational factors that reliably suppress performance below baseline.
The Rule: Don’t bet on who will hit the ceiling. Bet on who will hit the floor.
